Greater Masaka RECAP Engagements

From 12th to 15th October 2021, UCCA with support of its member COTFONE in Greater Masaka Region engaged with local EACOP Project Affected Persons in Lwengo, Sembabule, Rakai and Kyotera and with duty bearers to address pertinent issues on the EACOP project within the region. The purpose of the community engagement of PAPs and other stakeholders was to address outstanding Issues pertaining EACOP. Specifically, the engagements exposed the lapses in the existing grievance redress mechanisms. Their functionality and effectiveness in ensuring proper grievance management formed part of the outstanding discussions. Communities were empowered to properly document their grievances
A local government dialogue was also held in the region to understand the district compensation rates and Local Government’s role in the process of establishing District compensation rates. This was as a result of the vast complaints raised by the communities about the different rates within the same region which hindered the compensation process.
The RECAP provided platform for Petroleum Authority of Uganda to respond to the issues arising out of the community engagements and committed to follow up on the issues raised.
