KDF Strategic Litigation Surgery
On Sunday March 17, 2019 the Uganda Consortium on Corporate Acciountability (UCCA) held a litigation surgery regarding two cases presented by its regional member Karamoja Development Forum (KDF). This convening brought together a small team of UCCA members and other advocates. Some of the issues that formed the basis of the two cases’ litigation surgery included; eviction of communities from their grazing and farm lands, fraudulent acquisition of titles over communal lands and forceful eviction of artisanal and small scale miners from mining lands. The evictions were done forcefully and illegally with heavy deployment of soldiers and the police. The KDF litigation surgery focused on discussions around the nature of evidence required to support the cases, member threat analysis, possible forum and the possible parties to these cases. This Surgery took place just before the Teso-Karamoja Regional Corporate Accoutability Platform (RECAP) that was convened on March 18, 2019. The surgery was attended by a team of 5 lawyers and other experienced members of UCCA that work on corporate accountability issues in the region.
